Beliefs and Goal

At Skychute, we believe that there couldn't be two industries further apart in terms of culture, process, politics than property and technology.

Methodology

At Skychute, although we are pretty flexible and able to adapt to the methodology that works best with the client, we believe that getting to market faster and improving products in small and quick iterations will help clients to quickly understand where to be successful and pivot before failing. But we understand that sometimes a quick waterfall approach works for well-understood problems, other times we need to go out wide and explore everything and sometimes something in between. We fit our process to the problem to achieve the best results we can.

Estimates, not a fixed cost

For some projects, we might need to spend some time to estimate the whole project and then split it into releases and get the plan from there. In some circumstances, we would be driven by the time or budget they have and then match the scope and delivery timeline to that. Mostly depends on the type of process and adopted methodology.

Our ways of working

Skychute has the unique ability to speak across both of these industries because of its history, experience and success in both. Our goal is to create better property experiences with technology, bring technology and innovation into the property business, help our clients build, launch and improve tech products.

How we do it

Kicking off any project should always start with Why. Why the project exists and what problem it is solving. The steps projects go through vary depending on the stage they are in and the type of business.

Steps can include:

  1. Research (primary, secondary, tertiary)
  2. Business model development and validation
  3. Roadmap definition, feature selection and prioritisation
  4. Release planning for MVP or next product versions
  5. Design, development and maintenance of products
  6. Analysis of the product performance and advice on next steps
  7. Introduction to potential customers or investors

Understanding the problem

By spending more time understanding the needs of people and having great empathy for the users we can quickly design solutions. We are an agency that starts with significant domain knowledge and so our research and hypotheses testing is faster, more accurate and gets us to the solution faster.

Expected activities:

  • Qualitative research (e.g. in-depth interviews, focus groups)
  • Quantitative research (e.g. surveys, data analytics)
  • Secondary/Tertiary research (e.g. interpret data from other existing research reports)
  • Identify personas
  • Problem definition
  • Goal setting

Bringing technology and innovation into the property business

Once we understand the problem well, it is important to ensure there is sufficient benefit in solving it and that the costs to do so are realistic. We call this the feasibility stage. This is when our management team, engineers and UX designers work with stakeholders and client teams in order to understand the existing business processes, current issues and opportunities.

Expected activities:

  • Interviews with stakeholders
  • Workshopping future solutions
  • Delivery planning and product roadmaps
  • High-level estimate
  • Backlog creation
  • Resource allocation
  • ROI / Profit / Cost-Benefit analysis

Expected activities:

  • Inception meetings with stakeholders
  • Design estimation and planning
  • Design delivery (wireframes, hi-fi design, prototypes)
  • Detailed card writing
  • Task allocation
  • Grooming

Implementing solutions

While our design team focuses on the interfaces and overall user experience, our engineering team will be designing a best in class, scalable back-end solution that will support you from launch to maturity and cost-effective throughout.

  • Backlog review
  • System architecture
  • Platform planning
  • Resource planning

Build your own engineering team

Once the product is launched, we might help our clients to build their own engineering team and manage the transition. Potentially, we can also up-skill the existing tech team to meet the requirements for product development, giving clients the opportunity to continue their journey independently.
